Roy Perry - Biography

Roy was born in Ellesmere Port and educated at Wirral Grammar School before spending five years at Liverpool College of Art.

He did his National Service part of which he served in Hong Kong where he was stationed for nearly a year.

His teaching career spans 34 years during which time he spent 5 years in Winterton, 2 years in Skegness and 27 years in Brigg where he taught at Glanford School and Vale of Ancholme School.

He Married Joan in 1953 and has 3 daughters Sara, Anna and Jessica.

Following his retirement in 1986 he has painted intensely, mostly for his own satisfaction. Often he works through a theme which interests him, most notably of which has been his Australian series.

He and Joan have been to Australia four times to visit their daughter Anna and on the third visit Roy and Joan went on a trek across Australia putting up their tent every night. This was clearly an unforgettable experience and is still a powerful influence upon his work.

Roy exhibits in the county both locally and in Lincoln, being at one time Chairman of the Lincolnshire Artists Society. In October 2010 he had a successful one man exhibition at the Abbey Walk Gallery in Grimsby.

His life is still very full with gardening, painting, family, keeping fit in the gym and resisting going on any holiday which involves airports!
